El Gouna Film Festival Hosts Middle Eastern Premiere of ‘Life After Siham’
El Gouna Film Festival announced the Middle Eastern premiere of Namir Abdel Messeeh’s documentary ‘Life After Siham’ as part of its official documentary competition. The film, which had its world premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival within the ACID program, marks Abdel Messeeh’s return to Egypt with a deeply personal story.
The 76-minute documentary, his second feature, begins with the loss of his mother, Siham, and explores themes of identity, memory, and belonging between Egypt and France. “The story is connected to both countries,” Abdel Messeeh noted, adding that the film reflects on grief, love, and renewal.
Co-producer Baho Bakhsh praised the film’s honesty and contemplative nature, highlighting its ability to spark open questions without ready answers. Produced by Aweda Films with Les Films D’Ici, Red Star, and Ambient Light, the Egyptian-French co-production is distributed by Meteore Films and Split Screen.
