Ambient Light’s Founder and Director Ali El Arabi, recipient of the post-production grant from the Gouna Film Festival for “Captains of Zataari” in 2019, is now honorably paying it forward by empowering three new filmmakers at the CineGouna this year by giving three distinctive awards, including post-production, shooting equipment, and cash awards at the Gouna Film Festival for December, 2023.

Founded in 2016 by Ali El Arabi, CEO, Producer and Director, Ambient Light is an international film production and distribution company based in Cairo, Egypt and Los Angeles, United States of America. Furthermore, Ambient Light is producing and co-producing scripted and unscripted films in four continents with the aim to give a voice to the people who are not heard, to empower artists from the MENA region, and to build bridges between the region as well as American and European markets.

Ali El Arabi is an Egyptian Director and Producer with his debut feature documentary being, Captains of Zaatari, which premiered in Sundance in 2021, and received an honorary mention from Hot Springs Festival, as well as being long-listed for the 2022 Oscars. The film was selected in 85 international festivals and released in theaters and on major platforms such as Apple TV, Hulu, and Netflix.

Additionally, ‘Goodbye Julia’, another major success across the globe, a film co-produced by Ambient Light’s Ali Alarabi, and distributed in North America by Ambient Light had made it’s mark at over 15 international film festivals, also being the first ever film from Sudan to be presented in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. The film successfully ranked very high amongst audiences reaching the hearts and minds of people all over the world and to be later announcing that the spectacular Kenyan actress, Lupita Nyong’o, is joining “Goodbye Julia,” — directed and written by Mohamed Kordofani, as well as produced by Station Films’ Amjad Abu Alala and Mohammed Alomd’a — as the official Executive Producer for the film.
