MedFest Egypt 7th Edition Opens Under the Theme “Stations”

The 7th edition of MedFest Egypt Short Film Festival opened at the American University in Cairo’s historic Ewart Hall, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture. This year’s theme, “Stations,” reflects the journeys and challenges of both cinema and life.

Founder Dr. Mina El Nagar celebrated the festival’s growth from grassroots screenings across 14 governorates to six monthly film clubs, highlighting new milestones: Ministry sponsorship, a partnership with ESLSCA University offering a full scholarship, collaboration with El Gouna Film Festival, and expanded “From Script to Screen” awards.

The festival honored Amina Khalil for roles addressing mental health and taboo topics, including ADHD in “Khaly Balak Men Zizi” and child harassment in “Lam Shamsia.” She described art as a way to break barriers, dedicating the award to her collaborators and audience.

Other highlights included the recognition of Dr. Mona El Rekhawi, a pioneer in art therapy, and the announcement of 9 selected projects out of 150 submissions for “From Script to Screen.” The competition will showcase 32 films from 15 countries, chosen from 650 entries, judged by an international jury led by former Berlinale director Mariette Rissenbeek.

The opening night featured the British film “Diagnosis” and a performance by Youssef Ismail.

Since 2017, MedFest Egypt has built a unique platform merging cinema, medicine, and psychology—using film as a tool for dialogue, awareness, and social change.
