Shereen Farghal Behind Award-Winning Egyptian Pavilion at Cannes
Production designer Shereen Farghal is the creative force behind the Egyptian Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival, which just won the Best Pavilion Design Award in its fifth edition. The award celebrates outstanding pavilion design, visitor engagement, and dynamic programming.
Commissioned by the Cairo International Film Festival, El Gouna Film Festival, and the Egyptian Film Committee, the pavilion offered a striking blend of heritage and modernity. “We wanted the world to see Egypt through the eyes of filmmakers — a country rich in cinematic legacy and creative vision,” Farghal shared.
In collaboration with JY Studios, Farghal’s design featured mirrored elements, optical illusions, and a dedicated space for the Egyptian Cities Embracing Cinema exhibition, showcasing key filming locations. Archival films also played throughout, symbolizing the continuity of Egyptian cinema.
Despite tight timelines, Farghal’s vision delivered a powerful statement — and earned global recognition.
