Nile Surfers” Exhibition at Cairo Photo Week!
Photographer Coucla Refaat is set to showcase her exhibition “Nile Surfers” during the fourth Cairo Photo Week (May 6–18) at Cairo Design District. Organized by Photopia under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the exhibition features children in Aswan skating on surfboards and singing on the Nile—capturing unique cultural traditions and daily life.
Coucla, known for documenting human stories and rituals globally, aims to spotlight community identity and cultural dialogue through photography. Her past projects include work in India, Indonesia, and Thailand, earning her the title “Ambassador of Arts in Egypt.”
Photopia founder Marwa Abu Leila emphasized the event’s mission to highlight rare moments and diverse photography styles. Cairo Photo Week will feature over 20 exhibitions, 100+ talks and workshops, and participation from institutions like Vogue, National Geographic, and World Press Photo across 14 Downtown Cairo venues.
